Dr. Joe Scroppo is a forensic psychologist and attorney. He maintains private practices in law as well as clinical and forensic psychology, and has been a Risk Management Consultant for the American Insurance Trust since 2012.
Dr. Scroppo is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Hofstra University School of Medicine. Dr. Scroppo is a Fellow of Division 42 of the American Psychological Association. He is former president of the Forensic Division of the NYS Psychological Association and has served on numerous state psychological and legal taskforces and committees.
Dr. Scroppo is an expert in domestic battering and its effects, various mental state defenses to homicide charges, the civil commitment of sex offenders, and forensic assessment in child maltreatment/custody matters. Dr. Scroppo has testified as an expert witness in more than 300 criminal and civil trials. He has published and presented in the area of risk assessment, ethics and risk management, and forensic psychology.
Dr. Scroppo received a B.A. (cum laude) from the University of Chicago, his M.A. and Ph.D. from the Adelphi University Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies, and his J.D. (magna cum laude) from St. John’s University School of Law.
